Permitting is the hidden cost
Anything that connects to the grid needs an interconnection agreement with the utility, and usually an inspection and a permit. That process takes months in some jurisdictions and adds cost that is easy to leave out of a build budget.
An off grid system feeding a subpanel that never touches utility wiring avoids most of that. It is a smaller project in every dimension, including the paperwork.
Battery consequences
Hybrid inverters generally charge harder, because they are sized for whole home backup. The 250 amp charge figure on a 18KPV or a LuxPower 12K needs a bank that can absorb it, and that requirement lands on the battery budget rather than the inverter budget. Decide the inverter class first, then size the bank to its charge current.
