Privacy policy

What this site collects, why, and how to get rid of it. The short answer is that reading pages here requires no account and no personal information.

What gets collected

Browsing: the web host records standard server logs, including IP address, browser type, and pages requested. These are used to keep the site running and to spot abuse.

Comments: if you leave one, the name, email address, and comment text you submit are stored, along with your IP address and browser string for spam filtering. Your email address is not published.

Contact form: the name, email address, and message you send arrive by email and are kept only as long as needed to answer you.

Analytics: this site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get read. It records the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device and browser you used. It does not record your name or your email address, and nothing here asks you for either in order to read a page.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets its own cookies to tell a returning visitor from a new one. You can refuse them in your browser settings, or install Google’s own opt-out add-on, and the site works normally either way.

WordPress sets a cookie if you leave a comment, so the form can remember your details on the next visit. Logging in as a site administrator sets session cookies. There is no advertising network on this site setting cookies of its own.

Third parties

Links to Amazon carry an affiliate tag. Following one takes you to Amazon, where Amazon’s own privacy policy and cookies apply, and Amazon may record that the visit came from here. That is the mechanism by which this site earns commission, and it is described in full on the affiliate disclosure page. Links to manufacturer document libraries take you to those companies’ own sites, which have their own policies.

Google receives data from this site in two ways. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so a request including your IP address reaches Google when a page loads. And Google Analytics processes the visit data described above on Google’s servers under its own privacy policy.

What is never done

Personal data is not sold, rented, or traded. There is no mailing list, no account system, and no profile built about you.

Your rights and how to use them

You can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for a copy, or ask for it to be deleted. Email info@solarspecdb.com and it will be handled. Deleting a comment removes the stored name, email address, and text associated with it.
